"What is that we fear the most? Isnt it something which we can't see? Not anymore! Plaque is a layer of bacteria which is formed on the top of our teeth and gums. Everyday brushing prevents its build up in the mouth. Since it's not visible to the naked eye, its difficult to remove and acess the efficiency of its removal. But now, new dental innovations have made it possible for us to prevent their colonization. Q Scan Plus is an illuminating device which helps to light up the areas deficit in cleaning. We can detect the deposits and also helps you know which area in your mouth needs special care. It is easy to use and can be used for assessment of alot of people without the use of mirror and probe. It's best of children as it teaches what we need to remove their teeth, hassle free!"

"Nutrition, Oral health & General Health. As I was summarising my studies of last few weeks, I came to a conclusion to say with certainty that nutrition plays a very important role in health and diseases and it applies to oral health. I always thought that why some remain healthy while others are severely prone to all diseases, Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine’s archaic quote gave me the answer. “Let thy medicine be thy food and let thy food be thy medicine “ . My studies started with the Pottinger’s cat experiment. As I progressed through the research,I was perturbed to see similarities in the present human race. Diseases are at a rise. We are drowning ourselves in sea of advancing antibiotics and medicine. Unfortunately, our children are going to have it worse. Despite all the personal health care practices, the overall health and immunity of people is deteriorating, and the biggest proof of it is the increasing rate in health care institutions. At this point we need to ask ourselves, do we need more heath care or we need more healthy people? Those in favour of health, need to start with self and family care. My ancestors lived up to 80 years with the grace of great health. I had the privilage of being able to spend time with my great grand mother . I was able to witness her eating habits and self care pattern. Her diet consisted of one major meal and other small meals. She stayed healthy till 96 after which, unfortunately, she suffered from a pelvic fracture after a major fall. The research findings of Weston Price points to the fact that as we move from our traditionally established eating habits to a new pattern simpler practice, we put ourselves at risk. As the eating pattern of the people are changing, consumption of mass made factory preserved food which lacks basic life elements such water, vitamins & minerals, disables our body to protect itself from diseases. These food became the status quo, our life style of hiding from sunlight has deprived us nutrients the nature openly provides. As our children become more close to the virtual world, deficiency in most basic vitamin, such vitamin D, brought them closer to new array of diseases and defects. We need to see this as an epidemic rather than a status symbol. The role of vitamin D & calcium in the health of bone & teeth are well documented over the ages. Their deficiency have known to cause weakening and defects leading to various pathologies. Recent studies prove that pregnant women show deficiency in vit D & calcium which in turn gives rise to children who have cavities at early years of life (Early childhood caries) as their body is indebt of elements required for healthy production of teeth and bones. Retardation in bone growth can lead to poorly developed jaws which in turn causes irregular placement of teeth and improper bite and biting patterns. Nutritional deficiency reflect on the health of gums as well. In absence of external factors, deficiency of crude elements causes spontaneous bleeding and inability to repair in case of injury. In nut shell, oral health problems like tooth decay, gum problems & irregularities of teeth have a nutritional component attached to it. Understanding the importance of good healthy nutrition & changes in lifestyle can help you stay healthy & happy."

"Today I met my friend at a meeting, he moved me to one side of the room and told me that he had quit the habit of smoking which was his companion for 10 years plus. Now the question and reason for talking to me came up. What can I do to remove the stains that are there which remind me of my past. “ is it costly to make it back to its original color?” Many have this question. It’s not that costly... the initial management of discolored teeth is just scaling & polishing. 90 percent of cases, after that procedure, people are happy. We will consider other treatment options only after this. The patient gets a chance to control the cost too. I am adding 2 pictures just to show the color changes before & after scaling & polishing"

"As a pediatric dentist we often need to do many invasive procedures on children's teeth due to extensive dental decay...timely check up and employment of preventive treatments will prevent decay in the teeth and the need for any such invasive procedures. One such preventive method is the use of fluoride varnish. Fluoride varnish prevent tooth decay by forming a protective layer around the tooth. Application twice a year is recommended to make the tooth resistant to decay."
